She has her master’s degree in special education and is a certified Reading Specialist. Penny has worked for Round Rock as a dyslexia evaluator and dyslexia teacher for the past twenty-five years.
Allizon and Penny have received extensive training through Neuhaus, Scottish Rite, Rawson Saunders, WILSON and Really Great Reading, just to name a few, to remediate the difficulties faced by dyslexic students.
The main component of an Orton-Gillingham dyslexia program is decoding (the sounding out of new words) which is presented in a multi-sensory fashion. Decoding will be the main focus for many of our students coupled with phonological awareness activities and a reading fluency component.
Our instructors offer your child a blended approach to improve their handwriting, phonemic awareness, sight words, reading fluency, decoding, encoding (spelling), vocabulary, morphology (study of Greek and Latin words), comprehension, phonics and written expression skills.
In addition, we offer several sessions for the parents to learn about dyslexia if requested!
